Reflection during MMSEL Class
Positive climate classroom in SEP
I did my School
Experience Program (SEP) and handled class X in SMA PASKALIS Jakarta. I had to
think extra to teach teenagers because they are in puberty era who tend to play
and explore everything that they have not known yet, due to that I created
lesson plan that cover they needs but do not ignore the objectives of learning.
To fulfill my target during learning
process that transcribed in objectives of learning but also appropriate with
teenagers in delivering materials I should create positive climate surround
classrooms. It will increase students’ motivation with the purpose of students
can learn easily and happily. To build positive climate in classrooms I applied
some elements during my SEP, they are: Order and safety, Success, Challenge and
Task Comprehension.
During SEP I adjusted ‘Order and
safety’ in seating arrangement, inform students about topics that will be
learned by them, and class appointments that consist of rules to support
learning process in classrooms. All things I did in first meeting and for each
meeting I just remained them about the regulation that we had deal before.
I applied ‘Success’ term when I
asked my students to answer questions orally and giving feedback directly, this
method could improve self-efficacy of students so that they can measure
themselves whether they are ready to learn or not. After they were ready to
learn and knew the topic that will be discussed, verily the successful learning
process will be obtained by students and teachers easily.
‘Challenge’ is the way to know
students’ competency and measure students’ understanding. I applied to all my
students during SEP. I gave the wide opportunity to every student who wants to
analyze language features of recount text but before delivering their analyzes,
they should discussed it among themselves in a group, after that they might
announce they final critical thinking in front of the class.
I hope after ‘Challenge’ session
they will understood the subject completely that just learned by them, this step
we called by ‘Task Comprehension’. It means that students knew the material
totally and realized how to apply it in their real life. I assumed they knew
how to apply the subject in their real life, it supported from the result of
tasks that I gave to them. The task designed to evaluate their understanding on
subject that I had explained.
Generally,
in SEP with I was success to create positive climate in my classroom. It can be
proven by understanding of students and involvement of the students in the
classroom. However, I realize that many mistakes and shortcomings in every
aspect of my teaching style.
