Reflection of MMSEL Project "Know Yourself Know Your Future"

MMSEL Project’s reflection

My group and I already did our project on 16th January. Our project is “Know Yourself, Know Your Future” which has objectives that we are aware of our diversity of identity and also we can develop our self-concept by knowing ourselves deeply.
Our problem during preparing our project was deciding the target. In the beginning, we decided that we chose the students of Yasporbi High School. However, we taught that there was no time to make an permission letter. So that, we chose SSE students cohort 2011 and 2012. Unfortunately, there was Humanistic class for cohort 2011 and Make-up class for cohort 2012 at that time. Finally, we decided to chose our friends in our group and also Siti Qomariah from section C 2010 became the target for our project.
The activities were went well. The first activity was “Self Potraits and Sharing”, here we drew something that represent ourself then we shared to the others. I drew a water, water looks so calm but if we useful it can be dangerous, that is me. The next activity is “Handprints”, here we printed out hand and signed on it. It shows that we have different hand size and signature which mean we have our own identity and we are different each other. After that we did “Valuing Youself” ,  we answered some questions to help us recognizining our strength then “Accentuate the Positive” we answered some questions to show our friend’s strength. The last activity was “Write For Me” . In this activity we wrote a letter to ourself about what we want to improve from ourself and we will read this letter after 6 months later.
Honestly, I have not realize my self-concept clearly until we did this project. Although we conducted our project only for our group, I am very sure that it is very useful for us.

Another Serious Problems in The School

The topic in the last meeting was very interesting. We talked about aggression and violence. In my opinion, these are very serious problems which often happen in schools such as defiant students, students’ aggression, bullying and even violence. I have not encounter all of those problems during my school experience but thanks to this course now I know how to deal with those problems.

We call students with opposional behaviour as defiant students. These students are very annoying. They distrupt the class and get annoyed at every little things even some of them refusing the teacher’s instruction. The key of this problem is controlling our temper. Do not let our students control our emotion.  I hope I can handle this kind of student because it is hard for me to control my emotion.

The other problem that often happen in the class is dealing with students’ aggression. Why student becomes so aggressive ? I think, bullying can be the cause. If a student become a victim of bullying of her/his friends, she/he will start to rebel and become aggressive and has big energies to do something bad such as slamming a door or throwing a chair or even doing violation.

I was ever bullied when I was a junior high student in Surabaya. I was a new student and my friends started to call me “anak Jakarta”. I did not like it because it made me different with others and my senior started to hate me because of my accent. It sounds ridiculous when I remember this memory. Fortunately, I have some close friends at that time that always accompanied me so that matter did not bother me.

Violence is happening in schools nowadays whether between student and student or even teacher and student. I hate violence and I really against it, there is no excuse to do violence. I think, it is difficult to “cure” violence problem but we can start to “prevent” it. We can teach our students with some moral value such as respect, high-minded, tolerance, etc during our class.
