Students’ Behavior problems

Every student has different personality and their way while facing the problem. From the last MMSEL course topic I knew that there are four behavior problems that might be done by the students or other. First is defiant student. The students are tend to ignore the teacher’s instruction and advice and tend to break the rule of the school. It is can be cause of the low of moral knowledge that they get or it can be the influence from other. According to my experience, this kind of behavior problem is most often problem that can be found in school. In my opinion not all of defiant student is a bad student. They only have their own way to express their character or feeling but unfortunately it is done by the wrong way. As a teacher we can tell to them wisely about what they will get from their way to act and what the benefit or lack that they will get.
Second is bullying problem. Bully is an action that tends to hurt other mentally or physically. The bullying can be done by the personal or group to one target as the victim. The third is aggression, where the student with bad temper often gets angry easily when they are being criticized. The last is violence, where the student will fight each other. It can be happened because each of them wants to defend themselves. Among bully, aggression and violence have the same character that is hurt other as their enemy. The difference is the bully usually done by personal or group to one person as they target. The target is usually someone who looks weak or has disability. Aggression is usually done by a person who feels offended by other and tries to fight them. Violence can be the impact of bully or aggression where both of side will hurt their enemy by give punch or other physical abuses.
As a teacher we can not take these behavior problems as a simple problem. If there is indications about these behavior problem, teacher should has strategy to end that problem. Try to use good communication to talk about the problem with the students who mixed up with the problem. If the students repeat the same thing after they get the warning, let their parents know about it so the parents can help to  monitor their children.

Communication between teacher and Parent

In every aspect, communication always has important role to keep everything work well. It is also happened in education field. Here, the teacher has another duty to build the good communication with the parents of students. This duty is not only for teachers in high school but also for teacher in every grade of school. The teacher should be a good communicator between the students and their parents.
Teacher usually said to be the parents for the students during in the school. So teacher has responsible to take control of the students about the problem which is related with their school like their score, their tasks, their subjects, and other about their obligation and right in school. If the students unexpectedly have a problem in school like get into fight with other students or detected while breaking the school’s rules, the teacher is the first side who has to help the students to solve their problem. If the problem is can not be tolerated anymore, then the teacher should let their parents know about it by telling to them in appropriate and not in provoke way.

My Best Classroom Management

I have taught in School Experience program three times. The first is teaching assistant, second is team teaching and the last one is individual teaching. I have got many new experiences especially in classroom management during teaching in different school when School Experience Program. There were a lot of problem in class that I had to face during teaching like controlled the students while grouping, tried to get students’ attention again and again and there was so tiring and sometimes I felt little bit frustrated.
Among all of my teaching experiences during school experience program, the best class especially in classroom management was the tenth grade in SMAN 61 Jakarta. The class consisted of not until 40 students but more than 20 students. I forgot about the right total of the students. The students were little bit active to make a noise but still in controlled. The students were also easy to control while grouping. I can say it because I also have an experience in teaching about the difficulty of grouping the students.
I think the reason why the classroom management was success in that class because of students’ behavior too. They were active but still interested to pay attention to the teacher also to involve in activities in class.

Creating Good Climate In The Class

During my school experience program I tried to create a comfort atmosphere in the classroom for the students such as open the session by dialogue about daily life. In simple word I tried to be a casual teacher for them. I did not do the roll call because I was afraid that it will take my time in teaching because there were 40 students in the classroom. I just asked their names when we had a dialogue in opening session or asked one of the student’s name to read the text or the slide.
Fortunately I taught the class not only for one meeting. So in the next meeting I could remember some of their names. I also tried to give the good responds regarding to their opinion in answer my questions like ‘that is a good idea, I think you gave us a good suggestion.” or “Good opinion. You have strong evidence for it.”.
Although I have tried to give good atmosphere to them, it seems like I was to spoil them because one of the students were said to me that I was too kind and it can make the other students disparage me as a teacher. At that time I thought that maybe I was not too firm to my students, so they easily made a noisy in the classroom. After that I thought that being firm is not always I have to speak in a high tone like someone who is angry, I think this was my way how to be firm, by give them the freedom to express themselves but I still keep them on the right track. Honestly I still can not be firm to my students, not like the others usually do.

Maintaining Students’ focus (My SEP Experience)

Honestly, my latest school experience program this semester was quite hard for me. I was shocked because I had to teach a class with 40 students. Moreover I also had to handle the eleventh social class with the same amount of students too. The difficult parts were to get and maintain their attention to my explanation and when I had to guide them in doing the group work.
When teaching about a topic, I tried to start it with make a little conversation about something that common for them in daily life which was still relate to my topic. For example when I had to deliver a material about procedure text to tenth graders, I asked them about what they had for dinner last night or for breakfast this morning. After that they asked to explain briefly about how to make that food. In the other class I tried to start with different topic of conversation. I asked them about the step how to use their gadget, how to activate their social network accounts. I though that topic was really close to the teenager in digital era like now. Finally I could get their attention and I used it to explain the procedure text topic to them.
Also I used the same method while taught the eleventh graders. At that time I had to deliver the material about analytical exposition to them. I tried to ask their opinions about some famous singers from Indonesia and other countries. I asked their opinion about the influence of music genre from other countries to Indonesian music. Some students shared their arguments about it. After we had enough conversation and shared our arguments, I guide them to know that what we had talked about is called analytical exposition.
From their reaction while I asked them about the question to guide to the main topic, I was happy because they paid attention to me. Although sometimes they talked out of context and made some jokes but I tried to guide them to come back to the topic slowly.
Although they paid attention to me while I was explaining, when they do a group work with instructions that I had given to them first some of the students till did not understand yet about what the topic is about. So I had to re-explain to them one by one. From that I realize that maybe it is easier to make students’ eyes look at the teacher but it will be more difficult to make their mind in the same track with the teacher. This is what I need to learn more for my next school experience program.
