When I came to Regina Pacis High School for my
School Experience Programme, I had not known about Introductory Focus. What I
had in mind just one thing, what topic I have to teach in the class. Since my master
teacher gave me freedom to choose any topic to be taught in the classroom, I
keep focusing to the topic instead of student interest towards the topic. As I
arranged my lesson plan, I thought about how should I open the class, the
ice breaking, the introduction to the lesson and etcetera. Unfortunately
however, I did not really consider about student interest to the learning
activities.
I tried to grab student interest by doing the
ice breaking. I played a song and asked student to listen to the song carefully
in order to fill in the missing lyrics. Later on I did brainstorming about the
topic. The topic is about passive voice. I told them the passive voice is being
used everywhere. For example in the sign board on bus way.
After explaining the topic I asked student to
work in groups as an assessment. The objective of the group task was to
check student understanding towards the topic and giving feedback on their
learning. Since they worked in group they will get feedback from the teacher
and their friends. I asked them to write 15 passive sentences in groups. When
they had done they had to exchange their works to other groups. After that they
had to change the passive sentences into active sentences, and return the paper
to the original groups. The original groups will score their friend works. At
the end of the class their works will be submitted.
Unfortunately however I did not have a chance to
teach the same class twice or more. I also cannot observe my master teacher
when she was teaching. That is why I cannot really see which student who has
achievement problem. Whether they are perfectionist, procrastinate, or have
high anxiety, etcetera. I hope one day if I became a teacher I could observe my
students and motivate them to learn.
