Summary and reflection on 1st meeting

In the first meeting, we talked about extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and also theoretical views of motivation. Unfortunately, I did not come at that class but I learnt this material with the slide.
Based on the slide, what I understand about motivation is psychological force to get the goals or some objectives . It is goal-directed. There are two kind of motivation, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is motivation that comes from each individuals, but extrinsic motivation  is come from the outside of the individual him/herself, it can be reward or punishment.
Honestly, I did not understand about the theoretical views of motivation. Fortunately, in the second meeting Bu Mima reviewed this material.
There are four theories of motivation. There are behavioral theories, humanistic theories, cognitive and social cognitive theories, social cultural theories. Behavioral theories is focus on the changes of behavior as a result from experiences in the environment. Humanistic theories is focus on people’s attempts to fulfill their potential as human beings. Cognitive and social cognitive is expectation and beliefs to understand the way the world works. Social cultural theories is focus on individual to be securely connected with other people.
Then, I read the article : Kathy’s Class. I tried to identify that article. According to that article, there are two students that can be identified. The first student is Susan. In my opinion, Susan has intrinsic and extrinsic motivation towards learning history. She likes history and also her dad help her to learn it. Then, the second is Jim. He hates history and I assumed it that he has not intrinsic motivation to learn history but he interest about the way Kathy tells him something that happened a zillion years ago. So, I think he has extrinsic motivation toward lerning history. The last part of the article, Kathy try to give motivation to the students toward learning history.
In my opinion, it is hard to teach student who has no motivation to learning. But I want to be a creative student to make my subject more challenging and interesting as the extrinsic motivation to my students.
