Reflection; Theoretical Views of Motivation


In my own word motivation is like the air. All creatures need it, inside or outside the body for one purpose, living. Motivation which is intrinsic and extrinsic make everybody has direction and reason that make people do something. If it is intrinsic, motivation comes from within because of them self and extrinsic comes from other encouragement such as friends, money, parent etc. Both of them can be related each other. Extrinsic can be intrinsic because of repetition. In my own case; when I was in senior high, I join martial art. I was practicing how to kick and defeat using samsak. Then my coach asked me to have a real fight with my friend. At first I did not do it well because I hate to hurt other. Because of my coach’s statement that I had to join competition as the representative of my school, I did my best on practicing and I said to myself I have to be the winner. Motivation comes from my coach before but at the end it comes from myself because I want to receive the challenge and the curiosity of fighting.
Based on the theoretical views, there are behavioral, humanistic, cognitive and social and sociocultural. From the explanation in the class and by reading the slide, I understand the meaning but I still misunderstood with the case given to mention what type of the theoretical views included on.
In my opinion, all of the theoretical views show me about the real goal in the learning process on making the learners to be able to change their behavior (behavioral), maximize all the learner’s ability (humanistic), strengthen learner’s understanding about the surrounding world (cognitive & social) and give impact in the society (sociocultural). Those four views is the reflection of good learning result.
Motivation in four views may guide the teachers toward the learning objective. Because of many factors that may impede the conveying of the learning objective, teacher needs to know how to motivate students and learning objective will help teachers help teachers to choose the proper motivation.
