It goes without saying that classroom management plays a
crucial role in teaching and learning process. Without classroom management teacher
could not build a good relationship with student, student participation in
class activities are low, a lot of time is wasted, the learning objectives
could not be reached, etcetera. Unfortunately however, every teacher has a
different standard. One might see a good class management happens in the
classroom, while one is not.
Reminiscing my previous school experience at secondary
schools remind me that I had encounter a good classroom management. I was
teaching eleven grader social’s class at St. Theresia High School with my colleagues.
Even though we did team teaching the moment felt like the best classroom
management I ever had.
I did not teach in a long duration since we only had
forty five minutes to teach. I was teaching the class with both of my friends.
Each of us had a chance to teach for fifteen minutes, while the others had to
stand in the back of the class. That time
I had the last fifteen minutes to teach. I was delivering the material about
Hortatory and Analytical Exposition text. While I was explaining the material
the students paying attention, and answering correctly when I asked them.
Unfortunately, however they feel at ease when I use Indonesian rather than
English.
From the beginning until the end of the session, the
class was in the good climate, all students were participating in the class
activity, the class rule went well, and we managed to apply all activities as
we had planned. Well for me it was the best classroom management I had ever
known.
