Let’s Build Good Cooperation for Students’ Bright Future
Jajang Fauzan Muhafidh-2010120045- section C
When I was in senior high school, I had a friend who basically, he was a good person. However he got troubles in the school. I as class manager at that time chatted with him and asked to him whether he completely seldom went to school. He said that he also did not why he was. He just suggested me not to follow what he did, since he got trouble with the school rules including in academic field.
Actually, at that time my class advisor had called him for many times. Even, he visited my friend’s house and talked with his parents to discuss the problem. However, the result showed it was not totally success in changing my friend’s behavior. It could not take long times. My friend would do the same case in the school after getting out from the problem. Whereas, my class advisor had strongly full enough help him in order to be able to get next class level in the annual school meeting. This happened when I was in first grade and definitely in same class with him. Then, when I was in second grade, I heard that he was drop out from the school since he got trouble in the misuse of drug. He also was put in the jail.
From my experience, I get something to analyze. The teacher should build good relation with the parents to make the teaching and learning process run well. It can be applied by building good communication with them. According to Cameron & Lee (1997; as cited in Jacobsen, Eggen, Kauchak, 2009) argued that there are four benefits that students will get if the teachers involve their parents in learning process. i.e. Higher Achievement, More Positive Attitude, Better Attendance rates,  and Greater Effort on Homework. The problems which happened with my friend were located in these categories. He was lack of these categories.
If I were the teacher, I would observe the case and sit together with him to have usual conversation heart to heart not as a teacher but just as a friend. I would not go straight to the point in the beginning. Then, I would discuss the problem, found out the reason and gave him advice. This was what I meant as persuasive approach. On the same hand, I would send my friend’s parents a letter to invite them to come to school and to discuss the problem. After that, I would make a call to them to ensure the information. If the parents came to school, I would serve them well and did not straight into the point in the beginning.  I would ask the parents to build good cooperation in changing my friend’s behavior and attitude. Then, the parents and I would make some agreements and continuity controlling. The parents and I would often keep in touch and gave report each other until my friend got better in his behavior and attitude. The parents and I needed to care with my friend and geared his motivation up. I as a teacher would have role in the school, and the parents gave treatment at home. Hopefully, it would help him and not to be as what happened in the fact now.

Effective Communication to the Teachers

Communication is a key to deliver any information needed. Communication is really crucial in the school context where the teacher needs to communicate with another such as students, other teachers, headmaster, parents and etc. So, that is why teacher is required to have an ability to communicate effectively since they need to deliver some good or even bad information to the parents such as misbehavior or other regulations’ violence done by their children. According to what I learned in previous meeting was what is effective communication for teachers and the way to communicate effectively.

I reflect to the role play that I did in that meeting. At that time, we have been given some cases that relate to the students’ misbehavior like get caught kissing at the school, leave the classroom without reason, bring the pornography book and etc. I think those cases are truly possible to happen in the school since the students are really curious and willing to try something new. When these cases happened, teacher is suggested to have some strategies in communicating it wisely to the parents. The reasons why teacher needs to have strategies in communicating effectively because they will face some types of parents who are not the same (various). The parents could be cooperative, could be ignorant, or even could be offensive about their children.

So, I think what teacher needs to do are trying to ask the parents how their children behave at home (outside the school), tell the parents the case systematically, clearly and wisely, and find the solution toward this case (it can be also punishment). Every solution has to be concerned by parents and teachers, so it means that teacher and parent are working together to solve t  his problem.

I had an experience when I was in high school. There was an English teacher who was called Mr Bento. He seldom taught me in the classroom because he asked his students to go to his course. He only gave his students to answer the question that was provided in work book, after that he left the classroom. The students got the knowledge about English only in his course. Consequently, the students who did not enroll his course would leave behind. They would get poor score from him. It meant that the students should pay double for school and course. His students never complained about Mr Bento’s habit and only followed his rule.
One day, there was a student who did not enroll his course because she did not have enough money to pay the course. She was one of my friends in high school. Mr Bento was angry to her and asked her to get out from his class. I suggested her to tell her parents about it, but she said that her parents did not want to care about her life. She had lived in her grandma’s house since her mother left her away. I was sad actually when I heard it and I tried to help her.
I communicated to my mother about my friend’s case. My mother could not imagine about what Mr Bento had to do. Finally, my mother wanted to help my friend and she went to school as a caregiver to meet with school committee. My mother said that she had enfranchised as parents of the student to share and communicate about anything that related with school system. In the end of my friend’s case, Mr Bento’s course was closed and he was given enforcement by the principle.
I can get a message from my friend and Mr Bento story that is communication between teacher and parents are very  important. In my opinion, Mr Bento should call the parents about his course first rather than he only force the students to enroll his course. It is because students in high school are still shaded by parents. There will be a problem, if Mr Bento communicate it with parents of the students.

Get Classroom Management, Get healthy classroom
When I conducted school experience Program, I got chance to teach the students. This experience happened when I was in 3rd, 4th and the beginning of this 5th semester.  I considered everything I needed before teaching including my classroom management strategies. It was one of the important things to get healthy classroom in which teaching and learning process run well.
From the teaching and learning process I conducted, I think the best classroom management I designed was when I was in the beginning of 5th semester. At this semester, I got big percentage in teaching the students since I needed to teach the students individually from the beginning until the end of the program. At this semester, I taught for several classes. The best classroom management I applied was when I taught for class X3 at Regina Pacis Senior High School. At that time, I designed a lesson plan for topic Narrative text which focuses on reading and writing skill as what instructed by the master teacher.
There are some criteria in designing good classroom management. According to Lewis (1998) in Richards and Renandya (2008) said that there are three parts which should be considered in building classroom management: motivating students, managing constraints, and managing teacher’s role. In relation with teaching the students at class x3, I think I had given them motivation in learning narrative text by showing them a video or designing interest activity to make them active in the class. For managing the constraints means at that time I dealt with some difficulty which distracted me to conduct teaching for example there was a students who tended to distract other friends when listening to my explanation. However, I could overcome it by asking him to help me in spreading the hand out to his friends. He was smart student since he could understand my explanation and he could make good narrative story with his friend in pair. Managing teacher’s role means that as a teacher when I conducted teaching, I had power to control the students and to lead them to the right path. I had to be able to support them and to facilitate them to develop their skill in English. The students at that time were able to be active and to work in pair. I had never lost my attention to them by walking around the class to ask whether they had understood yet or not.
All in all, there are some Indicators the success of Classroom Management.  They are students participation in the class, students respect to each other, students understand the meaning clearly and students are able to construct the meaning or the answer when teacher questions to them. Furthermore, teachers are able to accommodate what students’ needs so that the objectives of the lesson can be achieved. Other things I got when I conducted teaching are the success of classroom Management depends on the level and characteristics, and classroom Management needs strategies to handle the students. Thus, it needs more practice in order to make teaching and learning process works well.

Well-Managed Classroom

I am studying English in SSE. Now I am in 5th semester. In SSE every student should do school experience program every semester. It means that I have done 5 times school experience program. Then now I have to choose which one from my school experiences which have well-managed classroom ever.
I have done my school experience in elementary school, junior high school and senior high school either private or public school. Before I choose which one the most well-managed classroom I will try to define what well-managed class is like.
Before I learnt what well-managed classroom is from MMSEL course, actually I have experienced by myself as a student how well-managed classroom conducts. I have experienced in SSE from my lecturers and I am as a student. So what my lecturers usually do become my barometer how well-managed classroom is.
A teacher should be a multitalented person. I mean that in classroom teacher may become a manager, an observer, a facilitator and an educator. If I can create a meaningful learning and can achieve learning goals, it means that I am near to well-managed classroom.
Grade 11 Science from high school 44 Jakarta is chosen by me as my well-managed classroom. That was my class which I taught at 5th semerter school experience program. At that time I taught spoof text. Based on my lesson plan I designed individual and group activities. I also conducted gallery walk. As the result everything that I have planned went well.
Definitely there were some factors which made it become my well-managed classroom. First that when somebody talked everybody have to pay attention to her or him.  So when I talked to them, they paid attention to me. It made me easier when I gave instructions in every activities to them. So I have never repeated more than two times when I gave the instructions. I also gave them opportunity to ask me if there was something that they did not understand yet. Of course I have listened and paid attention. That showed how important teacher become a good manager and also become a good listener.
Second was clear regulation. When the students were doing assignment they have to be told when they have to finish the work. If I said finish the work for fifteen minutes that they have to be ready for that. I did not forget to always check their work during they were working.
The last was my preparation. I prepared all the things before I entered the class. I prepared the power point, laptop and projector before the class began. I prepared the comic strips for the group work and I also prepared worksheet for individual work. I also prepared flipcharts and markers for gallery walk. What I did before entered the class was check and recheck all the teaching materials. So when I did my teaching I did not panic to do my plan B or C because everything was ready.
Hopefully my next school experience can be also my well-managed classroom. I will plan everything better. I will try to observe before I enter the class and I will think what I ideally to do in class.
